About Alexandra

Alexandra Jacobi (or Alex as she likes to go by) is a Licensed Professional Counselor in Washington D.C., Maryland, and Virginia. She earned her masters degree in clinical psychology from Loyola University Maryland, where she also held a graduate assistantship at the campus women's center. She has extensive experience providing counseling services in private practice, as well as in case management and client advocacy. Alex has a diverse clinical background, having served in a variety of mental health settings, including a research facility, outpatient mental health clinic, school counseling department, and at Johns Hopkins Hospital. To complement her expertise in mental/emotional/behavioral health and in feeding her passion for holistic/mind-body wellness, Alex became certified as a barre instructor in 2014. In her personal life, Alex seeks out enriching cultural experiences and adventures. She is ardent about humanistic pursuits and in supporting the greater good of her community. She loves art, nature, history, music and philosophy.

Alex specializes in working with clients (mostly in the early to middle adulthood age range) who lack self esteem and a sense of worthiness, and who are feeling anxious and/or depressed. This includes those who may be feeling out-of-balance, inferior, traumatized, overwhelmed, weak, defensive, defeated or simply just stuck. Clients who have a history of unhealthy coping mechanisms, relationship challenges, family discord, poor boundary setting, insecurity, perfectionism, disordered eating behaviors, catastrophic thinking, fearfulness and those who are simply looking to feel better about themselves and the path that they are on in their personal and professional lives tend to benefit greatly from working in therapy with Alex.

Therapy

Alex creatively tailors treatment to each individual’s needs. She specializes in working with mood, anxiety, adjustment, and eating disorders; and identifies self-esteem building, recovering from setbacks, problem-solving skills, healing through trauma, and creating balance as points of professional strength. She also works well with clients who feel they want to make improvements in their lives but aren’t quite sure where to start. She views mental health treatment as an integral part of health care, and believes that optimal wellness cannot be achieved without it. She emphasizes the role of the mind-body connection and the importance of holistic wellness in therapy.

Alex believes in building strong therapeutic relationships, where she will help clients assess levels of functioning in each area of their lives. Once her and her clients have collaboratively identified some core concerns (which may continue to reveal themselves throughout the course of treatment), she works with clients to address healing from an approach that incorporates tenets from positive psychology, cognitive-behavioral therapy, narrative therapy, solution-focused therapy, and mindfulness therapy. Alex helps clients focus on achieving inner peace, regardless of their external stressors. She also empowers clients by helping them tap into their inner strength in order to overcome roadblocks and challenges. She uses interventions that are designed to help clients develop insight and self-awareness as a function of helping clients to improve their relationship with themselves, as well as their relationships with others.

Alex's clients describe her as genuine, passionate, relatable and actively engaged. Throughout the process of treatment in a safe, warm, and collaborative environment, you can expect to start to feel increasingly balanced, secure, confident, and excited about the direction your life is heading in.
